12 de Abreel, Sabado Day 13 at Farnell & Briefing at Asian Civilisations Museum
The whole floor was deserted, not like any other day, because it was a SATURDAY!
We saw 4 living souls though.. all scattered, doing each's own stuffs in their department. No calls coming in.. finally. I love work on saturdays. :)
Alot of filing to be done today. Jenny wanted it more convenient for the next person coming in to take her post. Well, she is on the lookout for job, so I guess her days at Farnell are numbered (not as quick as mine!) How I wish she would stay there, so at least we can look for her on the next vacation. But like what she taught us, it is not healthy to stay too long (service) in a company. One thing is 'sian la', the other is to get more exposure and to constantly upgrade oneself in order to keep up with the pace. Besides, she advised to change jobs before 40. I agree with her, totally. She is an HR people, for at least 12 years in this company alone; nothing can be more reliable.
She also shared her travel and work experiences about her trips to India: the culture shock, the airport's conveyor belt area smaller than our conference room, and the little airport little-r than our office. A lot of begging and US dollars can do wonders there. ;) She had got used to it now that she has to travel there often, and a consolation is that there's a new and pretty airport coming. One surprising thing I never knew about India was, There isn't any dish called ROTI PRATA! ugh. how can it be! To think I once thought that if I ever made it to India one day, I would just survive on roti prata everyday. (roti-prata didnt originate from India) haha. But she said there are roti-prata lookalikes la, and they taste even better. Amazing. She also thought the western dishes there taste much better than our western cooking.. because of their strong sense of taste, they put heavy seasoning I guess. yumm...
I would love to experience the culture shock and the heavy spicy dishes one day.
So we finished the many filing and it was 1++. Amel and I already had our programme in the afternoon, but we didnt want to leave Jenny alone in the office. (By that time, it was just the 3 of us in the bigger-than-India-airport-Office) Besides, we wanted her to go home early to spend some time with her kids or family (sighs.. married life...) because even to me, I dont see Jenny going home. And sometimes she would just camp in the office. How to maintain a happy family like this? (maybe not even one to begin with. we can sense that.) I definitely know how hurtful the consequences are.
Then I quickly went to my desk, took out my phone and sent a quick msg to rou to attend the briefing first, so that she could fill us in of any details. But blurish me, I forgot! Rou didnt get that email! So, she didnt know where exactly to meet and all. Then, I just left to do the remaining filing and shredding with Amel and Jenny.
So Rou was waiting and waiting and waiting at Raffles place for 2++ hours, and dialed at least 11 times to my phone in the drawer in hope of getting to me. duh. sorry rou! Amel and I could only leave around 3, and Jenny still had to stay in the office. I hope she had fulfilled her promise with her son to get Bubble gun at Toys 'R' Us.
Then I rushed to Raffles place to meet Rou and we reached the Asian Civilisations Museum at 415pm. okay, although it stated in the email the briefing was 2-5 pm. The arrival of us was in time for no more briefing, but FOOD=) hehe, seems nice, but I could only pop a purple pudding into my mouth and we chatted with Chai Hock and Shu Yun. So surprising that he recognised us. He is doing well except that he cannot take part in marathons due to some back injury. Regardless of that, he is actively involved in some other sports like Dragon Boat, and he is participating in a competition nearing soon. Impressive. Respectable. I hope when I get to that age, I would be equally active like him too. I dont want to slack and waste my life away in the restaurants gobbling snacks or napping at home like some people. I wish.
So after talking we left ACM for MARINA SQ! heh again. The only way to make up to Rou was to treat her to something nice plus the crave for something chocolat-ish too. As I was in a rush, (sigh. again! why is today so rushy?) we had to order something simple and we didnt really stay and chat for very long. So here comes the fondue at Coffee Club:
